INDEPENDENCE, MO – A woman died after being struck by a train in Independence Tuesday evening, according to KMBC.
Police officers responded to the scene in the area of East 15th Street South and South Appleton Avenue after the incident was reported at about 7:25 p.m.
The woman had been hit by a Union Pacific freight train and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity was not immediately released.
Independence police are investigating the accident, and are trying to determine why the woman was on the railroad tracks at the time.
