PLEASANT VALLEY, MO – The Missouri State Highway Patrol released details of a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred in Clay County on Thursday afternoon.
The wreck happened on northbound Interstate 35, just northeast of Pleasant Valley Road at about 12:30 p.m.
The MSHP said that the driver of a 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis traveled off the left side of the roadway when the vehicle became airborne and struck a concrete wall.
The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and has been identified as 79-year-old Alfred Fletcher of Raytown, Missouri. He was wearing a seat belt, according to state troopers who are continuing to investigate the crash.
