SALINE COUNTY, MO – A driver died following a collision on Interstate 70 in Saline County Sunday evening, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
State troopers said 19-year-old Michael P. Stephenson was driving a 2008 Ford F-250 pickup truck west on I-70 around the 74 mile marker when the incident occurred at about 6:45 p.m. The investigation determined that Stephenson’s vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and struck a guardrail.
Stephenson, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected onto the roadway and was struck by a westbound 2024 Freightliner. The victim, a Platte City, resident was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Freightliner, 22-year-old Brandon J. Lathrop of Oro Valley, Arizona, was not injured. The MSHP was assisted at the scene by the Saline County Sheriff’s Department.
