KANSAS CITY, MO – A pedestrian was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in eastern Kansas City on Thursday afternoon, the Kansas City Star reports.
The victim, who was in a wheelchair, was crossing the street in the vicinity of East 23rd Street and Television Place when the accident took place just before 4 p.m.
According to police, the driver of a pickup truck made a turn from westbound 23rd Street onto Television Place and entered the wrong lanes of traffic. The driver’s vehicle hit the pedestrian on the north side of the intersection.
The victim was thrown from the wheelchair, and was hospitalized with critical injuries. Police said the driver was taken into custody after pulling into a nearby gas station. The driver was suspected to have been impaired at the time of the incident.
