News: Multi-vehicle crash on Missouri 240 sends 2 drivers to hospital

SALINE COUNTY, MO – The Missouri State Highway Patrol said two drivers were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle crash in Saline County on Monday afternoon.

Troopers responded to the wreck on Missouri Highway 240 at County Road P at 12:38 p.m., according to the MSHP’s accident report.

An investigation found that as the driver of a southbound 1998 Honda Accord slowed down for traffic, the driver of a 1997 Freightliner overtook and struck the rear of the Honda.  The Freightliner then jackknifed into the northbound lanes, blocking the roadway.  A northbound 2008 Ford Ranger hit the Freightliner.

The driver of the Ford, 21-year-old Miranda Cooper of Glasgow, Missouri, was seriously injured and flown to University Hospital Columbia. The driver of the Honda, 18-year-old Autumn Gier of Slater, Missouri, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Fitzgibbon Hospital. All drivers were involved were wearing their seat belts.

The MSHP was assisted at the scene by the Saline County Sheriff’s Office, along with Saline County Fire and EMS crews.
