LAFAYETTE COUNTY, MO – A motorcycle rider was killed in a collision in Lafayette County on Thursday afternoon, according to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The MSHP said 45-year-old Michael Kniest was riding westbound on Interstate 70 on a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle shortly before 3:30 p.m.
Kniest changed lanes near mile marker 31 and struck the towed unit of a 2023 Freightliner Cascadia, state troopers said.
Kniest, a resident of Columbia, Missouri, was ejected from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead after being taken to Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.
The MSHP said Kniest was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
