KANSAS CITY, MO – One of the drivers involved in a wrong-way collision in Kansas City last week has died of his injuries, police said.
According to a report by WDAF, the victim was identified as 23-year-old Christopher Lucas. Investigators determined that Lucas was driving a Nissan Murano south in the northbound lanes of U.S. 71 Highway Friday night at about 7:30 p.m.
After initially going off the road into the median, the Nissan went back onto the highway going north and struck a concrete bridge overpass of East 75th Street.
As the Nissan spun, it was struck by a northbound Ram 1500 pickup truck, which then hit a guardrail and partially overturned.
Lucas was rushed to an area hospital, where he passed away on Sunday night. The driver of the Ram was seriously injured and a passenger in the Ram sustained minor injuries.
Kansas City police were trying to determine whether impairment on the part of the Nissan driver was a contributing factor in the crash.
