News: Man dies after utility terrain vehicle crashes in Cass County

CASS COUNTY, MO – A crash involving a utility terrain vehicle in Cass County early Saturday left a man dead, reports KSHB.

 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 26-year-old Derek W Scott was driving a Polaris UTV south on South Shimel Road near East 187th Street at about 2:25 a.m.

 

State troopers said the vehicle had a flat tire, went off the right side of the roadway and struck an embankment.  Scott was thrown from the vehicle and hit a utility pole.

 

Scott, a resident of  Strasburg, Missouri, was pronounced dead about an hour later after being transported to Lee’s Summit Medical Center.

 

The MSHP was assisted in its investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Department. The vehicle sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene.
