News: Lee’s Summit man killed when motorcycle hits SUV on US Highway 50

LEE’S SUMMIT, MO – A motorcycle and an SUV were involved in a deadly collision in Lee’s Summit last week, according to police.

 

The incident occurred Sept. 1 on US Highway 50 near Route 291 at about 1:30 p.m.

 

An investigation indicated that a motorcyclist riding in the westbound lanes crashed into the back of an SUV, whose driver had slowed down to avoid debris in the roadway.

 

The motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital, where he died the next day. The victim was identified as 31-year-old Lucas Schmechel of Lee’s Summit. Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash.
