News: Kansas City woman charged with DWI in fatal Platte County accident

KANSAS CITY, MO – Authorities said a suspected drunk driver was arrested in connection with a fatal accident that occurred in Platte County last week.

A report by the Kansas City Star stated 25-year-old Emily A. Davis of Kansas City has been charged with a felony count of  driving while intoxicated, resulting in the death of another person.

The incident happened Sept. 13 at about 5:30 a.m. on NW Tullison Road.  According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s investigation, Davis was driving south in a Chevrolet Cruze when she struck the back of a bicycle.  The rider, 25-year-old Xaxier Anderson of Kansas City, was knocked off the bicycle and the bike then crashed into a utility pole.

Anderson was pronounced dead several hours later at North Kansas City Hospital.  The MSHP said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Davis was pulled over a short distance from the scene by a state trooper, who determined that she had been drinking.  She pleaded not guilty at her initial court appearance and was held in the Platte County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.
