KANSAS CITY, MO – Kansas City police said a fleeing driver was involved in a crash on Friday that left three people injured.
According to a report by KSHB, police initially tried to stop a woman driving a white Chevrolet Camaro in the area of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Prospect Avenue shortly before 5 p.m.
The woman sped away from the attempted traffic stop but officers did not pursue her car, police said. The driver then went through a red light at high speed and crashed into a Honda SUV in the vicinity of East 51st Street and Prospect Avenue, causing the SUV to slam into a nearby building.
The SUV driver suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Camaro was critically injured, while a passenger in the car was seriously injured. Neither occupant of the Camaro was wearing a seat belt.
Police are trying to determine whether the Camaro driver was driving under the influence at the time of the incident.
