News: Driver, passenger dead in crash near East 31st Street and Troost Avenue in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, MO – Police said two people were killed when their vehicle was involved in a crash in Kansas City on Sunday night.

According to WDAF, police saw a Chevrolet Corvette speeding to get around traffic stopped in the area of Linwood Boulevard and Holmes Street. Officers drove in the same direction but did not try and stop the vehicle, and later spotted flames at the intersection of East 31st Street and Troost Avenue.

Investigators determined that the Corvette driver had gone to the right of construction on the street and driven onto the sidewalk. The car struck a metal traffic signal pole, went through a chain link fence, hit traffic barriers and caught fire.

The driver and a passenger, whose names were not released, were pronounced dead at the scene. Damage was reported to a building at the southeast corner of the intersection.
