News: Driver injured in Ray County crash after falling asleep at the wheel

RAY COUNTY, MO – A driver was rushed to the hospital following a crash in Ray County last week, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

The 20-year-old man was driving a 2012 Nissan Versa east on Route U Tuesday morning when the accident happened at about 7:15 a.m.

According to the MSHP, the motorist fell asleep at the wheel and the Nissan ran off the right side of the roadway east of Lincoln Lane.

The Nissan struck an embankment and became airborne, then hit a mailbox, overturned, and collided with a tree.

The driver, a resident of Rayville, Missouri, suffered what were reported as moderate injuries. He was transported by Ray County EMS to Liberty Hospital.  He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, troopers said.   The vehicle was totaled and towed away from the scene.
