HOLDEN, MO – The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a collision involving a car and a horse and buggy in Johnson County left five people injured.
The MSHP’s crash report said the incident took place Saturday afternoon in the area of Highway 58 and SW 1001 Road near Holden, southeast of Kansas City.
According to state troopers, a 71-year-old man driving a 2003 Mercury struck the back of the horse and buggy with five occupants inside at about 1:45 p.m.
Three girls, ages 7, 5 and 3, were airlifted to area hospitals with serious injuries. A 33-year-old woman was hospitalized with moderate injuries, while a 38-year-old man was hospitalized with minor injuries. None of the injured victims were wearing seat belts at the time.
The driver of the car, identified as Glenn Gilbert of Holden, refused treatment at the scene.
