News: Accident involving tractor-trailer on Missouri 210 critically injures pedestrian

KANSAS CITY, MO – A multi-vehicle accident in Kansas City on Wednesday morning left a pedestrian critically injured, reports KSHB.

Police were called to the scene on Missouri 210 Highway near North Eldon Avenue after the incident occurred at about 10:15 a.m.

Investigators learned that the driver of a Kia Forte was stopped on the eastbound highway and was blocking an outside lane. The Kia driver then turned left directly in front of a Peterbilt tractor-trailer that was traveling in the middle lane.

The Peterbilt struck the Kia, then went into the westbound lane of Missouri 210, where it struck the trailer of a Freightliner tractor-trailer.  That redirected the trailer, causing it to hit a pedestrian who was standing on the  northbound shoulder of the highway.

The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital and was listed in critical condition.

Police are investigating whether there was any impairment involved with the driver of the Kia, who was also hospitalized.  The two semi-truck drivers were not injured.
