News: 2 injured when car crashes into I-70 guardrail in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, MO – Two people were hospitalized after their car crashed in Kansas City on Saturday night, police said.

According to a WDAF report, the single-vehicle accident took place on eastbound Interstate 70 shortly before 11:45 p.m.

A police investigation found that the driver of a Toyota Corolla lost control of the vehicle while traveling at a high rate of speed.  The Toyota went off the interstate, hit a guardrail, and then landed on top of the guardrail.

The driver and a passenger were seriously injured and transported to an area hospital.  Neither person was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, police said.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the incident, and are looking into whether the driver was driving under the influence.  The wreck shut down all lanes of I-70 for about 90 minutes.
