News: 2 injured in crash after driver of stolen car runs red light in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, MO – A collision at an intersection in Kansas City late Friday night sent two people to the hospital, KSHB reports.

Police said the crash involved a Kia Rio that had been reported stolen from Raytown. The driver was going east on Martin Luther King Boulevard just after 11:20 p.m. and went through a red light at The Paseo.

The Kia crashed into a Dodge Ram 1500 conversion van that was going north on The Paseo.  A passenger in the Kia was hospitalized with critical injuries, while a passenger in the Dodge was seriously injured.

The driver and two passengers in the Kia ran away from the scene.  Kansas City Police Department officers who were sitting in a police vehicle in the area saw the collision and apprehended one of the car’s occupants.

The driver of the Dodge, who was not hurt, was taken into custody for suspected impairment.
