News: 2-car accident on I-49 in Bates County injures driver

BATES COUNTY, MO – The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a driver was injured in a two-car accident in Bates County on Monday afternoon.

 

According to a crash report by the MSHP, the incident happened at mile marker 127.8 of the highway at about 4:20 p.m.  Investigators said 66-year-old Steven Quarles was driving a 2000 Toyota Sienna when he hit the back of the towed unit on a 2015 Freightliner driven by 41-year-old Herbert Carmichael of Kosciusko, Mississippi.

 

The Toyota went off the left side of the roadway, struck the ground and overturned, while the Freightliner came to a controlled stop on the shoulder.

 

Quarles, a resident of Belton, Missouri, sustained serious injuries but refused treatment at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
