News: Victim of fatal scooter collision identified as UMKC student

KANSAS CITY, MO – The person killed in an accident involving a scooter in Kansas City last week has now been identified, reports WDAF.

 

The University of Missouri – Kansas City said the victim was Yuxi Wu, a conservatory student at the school.

 

The accident happened shortly before noon on Thursday, near the intersection of East 51st Street and Troost Avenue.

 

According to police, Wu was riding a motorized scooter and crossing at an unmarked crosswalk. The scooter was struck by a Ford Focus headed north at a high rate of speed on Troost Avenue.

 

The scooter operator was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital. The Ford driver stayed at the scene.

 

“Yuxi was in the first semester of her studies toward a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance,” UMKC said in a statement. “We are devastated by this tragic loss, and our hearts go out to her family and loved ones. We are providing counseling services to students, faculty and staff during this difficult time for our campus community.”
