KANSAS CITY, MO – A crash in Clay County involving multiple vehicles, including a school bus, left two people dead on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Kansas City Star, the accident happened in the area of Route 92 and A Highway between Smithville and Kearney, and was reported at about 3:45 p.m.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said that the driver of a vehicle heading westbound on Route 92 stopped in highway traffic to make a left turn. The driver of a sedan tried to avoid crashing into the first car but entered the path of a westbound school bus. The sedan clipped another car, was struck by the school bus, and was thrown back into a fourth vehicle.
Two people in the car hit by the school bus died in the wreck and a third was critically injured.
The school bus was reported to have come from the Gallatin R-V School District in Gallatin, Missouri, and was carrying 17 passengers as students were being transported back from a Future Business Leaders of America conference. Two people on the bus sustained minor injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
