News: 2 semis, SUV involved in fatal crash on I-70 outside Blue Springs

BLUE SPRINGS, MO – A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 on Wednesday afternoon left one man dead and another injured, reports the Kansas City Star.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene on I-70 west near Adams Dairy Drive outside Blue Springs.

The MSHP’s report said a semitractor-trailer failed to stop for slowing traffic on I-70 and rear-ended a Ford Excursion SUV, pushing the vehicle into a guardrail.  The semi also crashed into the back of another tractor-trailer.

A passenger in the first semi, 28-year-old Robert T. Cox of Lenexa, Kansas, died after being taken to an area hospital.  The driver of the SUV, 72-year-old James Clark of Helena, Montana, was hospitalized with serious injuries.

The westbound lanes of I-70 were shut down near the wreck, and drivers were advised to seek alternate routes.
