INDEPENDENCE, MO – Police said a three-vehicle accident in Independence Sunday night claimed the life of an elderly driver.
KSHB reports the incident took place after a 2019 Tesla became disabled in the center lane of Interstate 70 due to a mechanical issue.
Two other vehicles were not able to avoid colliding with the Tesla, police said. The driver of the Tesla was killed, and was identified as 74-year-old Terry L. Siegel of Lake Winnebago, Missouri. A passenger in the vehicle was hospitalized.
The drivers and passengers in the other two vehicles were not injured.
Independence police are investigating the collision.
