INDEPENDENCE, MO – Police said a suspect fleeing from officers caused a crash in Independence Wednesday that left four people injured, KMBC reports.
The pursuit began at about 2 p.m. after a man told police his F-350 pickup truck had been stolen from him at gunpoint. Officers attempted to stop the driver after spotting the pickup truck in the area of Noland Road and Gudgell Street, but he took off going south.
Just as the officers were preparing to terminate the pursuit, the pickup went into oncoming traffic and struck four other vehicles at the intersection of Noland Road and Lynn Court.
The suspect tried to escape the scene on foot, but he was tracked down by civilians and officers and taken into custody. Of the four people injured in the crash, two were hospitalized with injuries that were not regarded as life-threatening.
Northbound and southbound Noland Road north of I-70 was shut down while authorities investigated the scene.
